Celebrity Cruises will add a fifth Edge-class ship to its fleet. Celebrity’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., has entered into an agreement with French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique for the new vessel, with delivery slated for fall 2024.
“Celebrity Edge has delighted our guests and affirmed Celebrity Cruises as the leading modern luxury brand,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “Chantiers de l’Atlantique has been a brilliant partner and we look forward to creating another amazing vessel with them.”
The first ship in the Edge class, the Celebrity Edge, was delivered last year and represented a number of new product innovations for Celebrity Cruises, particularly as it relates to technology. Eye-catching features include the Magic Carpet, a platform cantilevered off the side of the ship that moves up and down to provide additional space for restaurants, the pool deck and as the tender embarkation point.
The ship also incorporates a number of guest-friendly automation features in its new Infinite Veranda staterooms, such as the ability to lower a shade or exterior glass with the push of a button, or adjust the lighting into a number of preset moods.
Other innovative highlights include the three-deck-high Eden dining and entertainment, an expansive spa, and a rooftop garden venue.
Celebrity Apex, the second Edge-class ship, is currently under construction and will sail its inaugural season beginning in April 2020 in the Mediterranean. It will move to the Caribbean in November 2020. Reservations are being accepted for all itineraries.
The third ship on order, Celebrity Beyond, is scheduled to debut in 2021 and the fourth, as yet unnamed, will join the fleet in 2021.
