Itinerary at a Glance
DAY 1: Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya
Jambo na Karibu! After a warm welcome, you’ll be transported to your lovely, centrally located hotel. Relax and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
DAY 2: Nairobi
Today’s tour of Nairobi takes in all the highlights, visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and its pioneering orphan’s project. Continue to the Giraffe Center, home of the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, where you will have the opportunity to interact with these gentle giants. Your tour ends with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. The Oscar winning film Out of Africa is based on Karen’s life.
DAY 3: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a predator rich reserve that also is one of East Africa’s largest private rhino sanctuaries. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy sweeping views of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Meet your ranger for an afternoon game drive. Later this evening, go on a night game drive, discovering nocturnal animals with the help of a filtered spot light, like the elusive leopard.
DAY 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Start the morning by tracking and gathering vital research information on the lions of Ol Pejeta. It is a wonderful way to learn about lions. Ol Pejeta is a refuge to several endangered species, including Kenya’s only chimpanzee sanctuary, established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. Top off the day with a tree planting exercise.
DAY 5: Mount Kenya
Enjoy an early morning game drive, followed by a delicious breakfast. Afterwards, travel north into the foothills of Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa. Stop at the Nanyuki Weavers and Spinners, a women’s self-help project established in 1977. Continue to the world-famous Mount Kenya Safari Club, arriving in time for lunch. The balance of the day is at leisure.
DAY 6: Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, continue to the Samburu National Reserve. Later this afternoon set out on a game drive in search of the rare wildlife only found north of the equator. The Samburu National Reserve provides excellent year-round game viewing including a chance to encounter the Samburu Five – reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Grevy’s zebra. Enjoy a sundowner as the sun sets over the African plains.
DAY 7: Samburu National Reserve
Spend the day game viewing in Samburu National Reserve with both morning and afternoon game drives. The Ewaso Nyiro River is the lifeline for the people and animals in the area and crocodile share the banks with elephant, lion, buffalo and even the elusive leopard.
DAY 8: Maasai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip for your flight to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s most popular wildlife reserves, with vast, gently rolling landscapes of acacia-specked grasslands. Lunch will be served on arrival, followed by an afternoon game drive.
DAY 9: Maasai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy a bush breakfast before your morning game drive. Every day in the Maasai Mara is different, with a never-ending showcase of untamed nature. You may see a pride of lions stalking their prey, observe a herd of elephant and their fascinating social structure, or see pods of hippo wallowing in the rivers.
Optional Activity: Enjoy the thrill of an early morning hot air balloon ride over the rolling plains of the reserve.
DAY 10: Maasai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi
Soak up your last morning on safari before returning to Nairobi by air. This afternoon, enjoy lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant, Nairobi’s famed restaurant and a shopping excursion. A day-room is at your disposal until you are transferred to the airport for your international departure.
