Celebrity Cruises has recently announced they will replace Formal Nights with what they are calling “Evening Chic”. While less is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire, Evening Chic is dressier than Smart Casual.
What is Evening Chic attire? For women, it is a cocktail dress or skirt, pants, or designer jeans with an elegant top. For men, it is pants or designer jeans with a button-down shirt or sweater. A sport coat or blazer is optional.
For those who want to dress more formal on Evening Chic nights, you can still get glamorous and up the sophistication level. For example, if you would like to wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you still can.
How many Evening Chic nights are there? For cruises that are 6 nights or less, there is one Evening Chic night. For cruises that are 7 nights or longer, there are at least two Evening Chic nights. All other nights are Smart Casual.
The dress code in Celebrity’s Specialty Restaurants is Smart Casual for every night of the cruise. Smart Casual is similar to Evening Chic except that casual tops and polo shirts replace the dressier tops and shirts. Evening Chic attire is only required in the main dining room on the Evening Chic nights.
Why is Celebrity making this change? According to Celebrity, “When it comes to attire, modern luxury travel is often more relaxed than traditional formal attire. So, rather than tell our guests they need to wear traditional formal wear to fit in on certain nights onboard, we’re giving formal night a modern luxury reboot.”
