Amber Fort, Jaipur, India

Amber Fort, Jaipur

The historic Ganges River is the gateway to India’s untouched villages, ancient cities, and remarkable culture. Known as the holy river of Hinduism, the Ganges slowly courses through one of the world’s most fertile and populated areas. On one of Avalon Waterways new Ganger River cruises, you’ll witness must-see sights and have an intimate glimpse of everyday life along the river.

Startin in 2019, Avalon Waterways will offer four Ganges River cruise itineraries, varying in length from 13 to 21 days and departing from either Delhi or Cochin and arriving in either Kolkata or Kathmandu.

You’ll cruise on the stylish Ganges Voyager, an intimate river ship that carries a maximum of 56 guests. On every cruise, an expert Avalon Cruise Director accompanies you and Certified Local Guides offer their unique perspective on shore excursions.

On the river, you’ll explore small villages, visit goldsmiths and pottery makers, sample local tea, and take an electric rickshaw to see saree weaving up close.

On land, you’ll visit the capital city of Delhi and tour the massive Amber Fort towering over Jaipur, and India’s most iconic site, the Taj Mahal, for stunning views at sunrise and sunset.
