Welcome to Siem Reap, Cambodia, former capital of the Khmer empire and now gateway to the famous Angkor complex and a World Heritage Site. We’re back in a Sofitel Hotel property, this time at the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra located just outside of central Siem Reap and within a short tuk-tuk ride to the temples of Angkor or the downtown markets.
The hotel is set among beautiful landscaped gardens and boasts the largest free form swimming pool in Cambodia, complete with swim-up bar. After the long drive back from Ha Long Bay direct to the Hanoi airport, it was a short flight to Siem Reap. Cambodia is an entry-on-arrival country – but here, our hosts simply take our passports and pictures to handle the visa formalities while we transfer to the hotel. We’ll begin our tours of the Angkor temples and other local sights tomorrow.
