sydney Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizibeth 2 in Sydney |
A massive celebration including fireworks over the harbor was held in Sydney today when the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 joined each other. A crowd that local papers pegged at more than 200,000 people lined the shores of the harbor to see the historic meeting of the famed ocean liners, the first time since World War II that two Cunard Queens have visited Sydney simultaneously.
The three-year-old, 2,592-passenger Queen Mary 2 is on its first cruise around the world, and has been drawing heavy crowds almost everywhere it goes. The Queen Elizabeth 2 is on its 25th world cruise. The two ships set off around the globe simultaneously from Ft. Lauderdale on Jan. 10 but have followed different routes. This will be their one and only rendezvous during their respective voyages.
