A Journal with 9 chapters. Last posting on Monday, December 14, 2009 by RandyIn a media and travel industry introduction, we spend a whirlwind 24 hours onboard the new Oasis of the Seas. We've just left the Ft. Lauderdale airport and I'm anxiously peering through the tree tops hoping for my first glimpse of her. The airport is a very short drive to Port Everglades, so assuming that Captain Bill hasn't taken her out for a joy-ride, she should be berthed at the new Terminal 18 pier. There are a few quick sightings as we top the highway overpasses. But, the best view comes from the top of the 17th Street causeway. First impression: she's HUGE! Tall, wide and of course long, as long as 3 football fields. Looking in at the Aqua-Theater, "> Read full story >> Posted on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 by Randy tagged as oasis of the seas, royal caribbean Cafe Promenade |
The Royal Promenade is a good neighborhood to start in, since each guest first enters through the Promenade on Deck Five. First introduced on Vision class ships, the Royal Promenade is also standard on Freedom class vessels. On the Oasis, the Royal Promenade runs from forward to aft elevators connecting to the top level of the Opal Theatre in the front of the ship and the top level of the Opus Dining Room in the rear of the ship. And, of course it's longer, wider and taller than on other ships.
Returning from "appearances" on other ships are: Bolero - the Latin "> Read full story >> Posted on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 by Randy Boardwalk Carousel |
By walking all the way through the Royal Promenade, and taking an elevator or stairway up one deck, you'll arrive at the outdoor Boardwalk. Situated on Deck Six, the Boardwalk looks like a Coney Island seaside pier. The first thing you notice on the Boardwalk is the beautiful hand carved wooden Carousel. In fact, leading up to the Carousel are two rough cut blocks of wood showing the progression of carving the finished Carousel animals.
Looking up toward the open sky, you'll see some of the over 200 Boardwalk view balcony staterooms on Oasis. These staterooms "> Read full story >> Posted on Thursday, December 3, 2009 by Randy tagged as oasis of the seas, royal caribbean Central Park |
Central Park is amazing, and quite far removed from any traditional cruise-ship experience. Other than the possibility of catching a seagull soaring high overhead, you'd never know you were on the ocean. After Oasis arrived in Florida a massive team went to work "planting" Central Park with over 12,000 plants and trees. Final touch-ups were still being applied while we were onboard, but overall the impact is quite stunning. Three decks above the Royal Promenade, Central Park spans the entire space between the forward and aft elevator lobbies on Deck Eight. The Pool and Sports Zone stretches from the adult-only Solarium at the front of the ship to the two Flow Riders aft on Decks Fifteen and Sixteen. In between you'll find an ample playground of pools, whirlpools, sunning decks, bars, a basketball court, and even a miniature golf course.
At the front of the ship is the open air, two level adult-only Solarium. Seating is designed on various "islands" surrounded by water. The Solarium Bistro offers casual and healthy fare during the day and transforms into a romantic and intimate setting for specialty dining and "> Read full story >> Posted on Sunday, December 6, 2009 by Randy tagged as oasis of the seas, royal caribbean Jazz on 4 |
The main plaza of Entertainment Place is one deck below the Royal Promenade. Nearest the forward elevator is Jazz on 4, a small lounge showcasing live jazz and blues that is styled after prohibition-era Chicago - featuring walnut paneling, plush seating and velvet drapes. Across the plaza is Blaze nightclub with dramatic entrance doors "burning" with hot flames and a "charred" threshold. Next door is Comedy Live, the comedy club with an underground theme, with decor inspired by a New York subway station - bright casual furnishing and a subway system map on the ceiling. At the end of the Entertainment "> Read full story >> Posted on Monday, December 7, 2009 by Randy tagged as oasis of the seas, royal caribbean Vitality at Sea Spa |
The Asian-inspired Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center is located on Deck Six with additional treatment rooms on Deck Five - and no surprise, the largest of it kind at sea. It encompasses various amenities that cater to complete body wellness. The new Vitality at Sea Spa includes a Thermal Suite, featuring heated tile loungers, saunas and steam rooms; three couples massage suites and seven individual treatment rooms- -the largest collection at sea. Kids and teen passengers also will find their own dedicated Spa in which to enjoy specially catered services. The Youth Zone on Oasis is a "kids-only" neighbor featuring a children's theatre, science lab, arts & craft classes, video arcade, a nursery and more.
Open daily, the nursery offers parents childcare drop-off options in the daytime and evening, carefully maintaining an optimum staff to child ratio. Daily interactive free-time play is also offered for parents and children, encouraging them to bond while playing with a variety of Fisher-Price developmental toys in specially-designed programs offered exclusively for Royal Caribbean. For instance, the Crayola Beginnings line of toddler "> Read full story >> Posted on Monday, December 14, 2009 by Randy tagged as oasis of the seas, royal caribbean Royal Loft Suite |
As on most new cruise ships, guests make a selection of Suites, Balcony, Oceanview or Interior Staterooms. On Oasis of the Seas, these categories plus more are available to you.
Starting from the top, literally, are the Loft accommodations. Royal, Sky and Crown Loft Suites are situated at the highest point on the ship, near the Viking Crown Lounge. A one of a kind experience; it's the ultimate in urban living. With floor to ceiling windows and private balconies, Loft Suites all offer amazing "> Read full story >>
