To further enhance your experience, Oceania offers Culinary Discovery Tours – a chance for you to take your culinary exploration onshore through guided tours and local dining events.
Oceania’s Culinary Center
Guests who enroll in the Culinary Center learn how to prepare a variety of exquisite dishes at fully equipped workstations, while master chefs from around the world offer instruction and inspiration.
Kathryn Kelly, executive chef and director of culinary enrichment for Oceania, was enlisted in 2009 by Bob Binder, president and CEO of Oceania to help design a professional culinary instruction kitchen.
The resulting Culinary Center, located onboard Marina and Riviera, became the first hands-on cooking school at sea. It is a captivating space. Located on Deck 12, the teaching kitchen offers state-of-the-art equipment along with panoramic ocean views.
Class themes are focused on technique and skills, ingredients, preparing destination-inspired cuisine, and recreating favorite dishes from Oceania’s specialty restaurants.
A new course offered on Cuba sailings, includes recipes adapted from the Cuban grandmother of Frank Del Rio, founder of Oceania and president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
Culinary Discovery Tours
Fortunately for foodies, Oceania’s interest in cuisine isn’t confined to the walls of its ships.
After Culinary Center students expressed an interest in learning more about destination food scenes, Kelly began to design the Culinary Discovery Tours. Launched in 2012, the tours are led by Kelly or by a chef instructor.
At select ports, guests can delve deeply into the local cuisine by exploring local food markets, vineyards, and farms, and experience authentic regional fare in private homes or local restaurants.
